In the years that I have been working with computers. I have ran across many residential users that have had their hard drive crash and then are in a panic because all their data on their computer is possibly gone. ( i.e pictures, music, etc.).
Residential users need to think about what they would do if their computer crashed. Would you have a copy of everything that was on your computer because you have a back up solution? Or would you possibly lose everything?
Even though you can go to a data recovery company to retrieve your data, there is only about a success rate of 75-85%. You never know when you might be in the percent that your data can not be recovered.
For residential users you can back up your data with very simple options. One, you can use a thumb drive and back up from daily to once a week. Two, you can also buy external hard drives for your data to back up to. Lastly, there are off site companies that for a monthly nominal amount that will back up your data.
The main idea that I want to get across is back up your data. It can save you a headache and money.
